Interesting themes at Rugs Galore by Metromela
What you see - Just beside Villa Marie College, you see a wooden pointer leading you to Rugs Galore. As you walk down the driveway lined with trees, you see rugs spread out in the sun. The colorful designs and offbeat patterns catch your eye immediately. Walk across the lawn and you enter a tiny air cooled room piled with carpets and bean bags of all sorts. These backup as seats too.
What you get - It is the cube and cylinder shaped seats and a cozy bean bag that immediately take your attention. These come in blue, brown-white mix and green-white mix and are made of cotton-chenille. Resembling Golliwog's (from Enid Blyton stories) hair, the bean bag priced at Rs. 2,700 is quite soft to touch and is worth a buy.
The rugs here are made from wool, leather, lux (threads made from polyester) and hair-on-leather. So the feel and texture is unique and doesn't resemble the famed Afghan or Persian rugs. They come in sizes of 5ft x 8ft, 4ft x 6ft, 3ft x 5ft and 2ft x 4ft. Rugs come in different shapes too, be it a cloud like design or a heart shape, they have it all.
The 5ft x 8ft rugs are often used in the living room. A rich purple base rug with bubble-like design stitched on to it is unique. The bubble designs are made from hair-on-leather, so they stand out too. It is priced at Rs. 44,000. They have leather carpets too, which look like different patches of leather stitched together and these can be bought for Rs. 17,500. An interesting find here is a cream wool-based rug with 'footprints in the sand' like design in red and brown leather. You can own it for Rs. 18,000.
The 4ft x 6ft sized rug can be used as your bedside rug. Here you have rugs made of leather shags (long strips of leather) in mostly tan and black. These can come in either straight cut or zigzag cut for Rs. 8,300. Here you have carpets in acrylic and goat skin. A creamy white goat skin carpet will cost you Rs. 48,000. They have a rug in suede leather for Rs. 7,800.
The next size rugs, 3ft x 5ft can be used in your children's room. Here they have leather rugs with embroidery woven into them. These are priced at Rs. 7,500. An interesting find here was a rug made of twisted and felted wool on a red base. Resembling jute, it costs Rs. 4,950. They have jute carpets too in this size. A rug with plaited jute strands in black and cream is priced at Rs. 3,000.
In the 2ft x 4ft size rugs, most of them are made of lux. Here, designs are based on different piles or layers. A cream carpet with bar code like design with loop weaving, twisted yarns and different piles is priced at Rs. 3,600.
That is not all. They have bathroom mats and most of them are of cotton-chenille make, which makes them washable. They have a chocolate brown star shaped mat (50cm x 60cm) for Rs. 300. They have sunny yellow rugs in heart shaped designs too.
Cushion covers can also be found here and most of them are made from leather shags. Front door mats that are available here come in interesting shades of lime green, red, grey and checks too.
They also have kid-themed rugs. A midnight blue rug with stars, moon and ribbons can be bought for Rs. 6,500. They have butterfly and caterpillar themed rugs in pink and red.
Our verdict - For those who have a contemporary themed house, these rugs will add to the setting. The cushions and bean bags are a good addition to any home. Prices are slightly on the higher side. Vibha Jalan, who runs this store from home, doesn't advertise much and it is often through word-of-mouth that customers get here. There is some space to park in front of the store.
