Yes, it's still winter on this side of the hemisphere, but you can still get a glow, that bronzy golden glow of a tan. No, you don't have to fly to sunny climes, or commit yourself to a membership to a salon (one frequented by hoards of others).
Luckily for the modest, budget-conscious, but someone who wants to go for the glow, there are several self-tanning options available. Above all, self-tanners are essential for cancer prevention. Exfoliating before beginning the process is critical to "prep" skin.
One of the most popular self-tanners is the UK-brand St. Tropez. Introduced in 1996, it's popular with celebrities, including actress Emily Blunt ("The Werewolf") who wore St. Tropez, courtesy of make-up artist Jenn Streicher, at the premiere of her latest film, "The Adjustment Bureau." This lotion is Aloe Vera based and a range of products the company describes as self-tanning, gradual tanning, low-commitment tanning. They introduced what they call "Aromaguard," in March 2009. Probably the biggest complaint about self-tanning products is the distinctive (and to some, unpleasant) smell, and "Aromaguard" allegedly reduces the smell by 70%.
Streicher used St. Tropez Bronzing Rocks on Blunt. First, Streicher used St. Tropez Tan Optimizer Body Polish to exfoliate and prep Blunt's skin, and massaged dry areas of skin with St. Tropez Tan Optimizer Body Moisturizer. She pumped St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse onto an Applicator Mitt (for even coverage) and applied it all over. She told Blunt to wait before getting dressed and four hours before showering, which will then, she says, "reveal a naturally golden glow." Streicher then dusted St. Tropez Bronzing Rocks over Blunt's face and décolletage, and highlighted her cheekbones, décolletage, arms and shins with St. Tropez Skin Illuminator.
There are other Sunless Self-Tanners well reviewed by users. It should be noted that gels and lotions applied by hand may necessitate assistance on hard-to-reach places. Mists will be able to reach places, but again, it may be better to have someone help you so that the self-tanner is applied evenly.
